The futute is green!
The Forest and Farm Facility Project (FFF), in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) through PADECO, has made significant strides in empowering local entrepreneurs in Ludewa District. By providing technical assistance and equipment support, the initiative has enhanced and diversified green enterprises for two entrepreneurial groups: Luana AMCOS in Luana ward and the Ash-Tech Group in Ludewa ward. These groups, comprising 37 beekeepers, have transformed their vision into reality by establishing thriving Food and Forestry Gardens.
Food and Forestry Gardens
Within these vibrant gardens, the groups have cultivated a diverse array of:
- Vegetables
- Fruits
- Medicinal herbs
- Native tree seedlings
Project Objectives
The initiative is designed to:
- Foster environmental conservation and combat climate change
- Promote resilient household economic development
- Enhance energy efficiency
- Boost food security and tree seedling production through agroforestry
- Advance honey production with modern beekeeping practices
“Our integrated forest garden has become a focal point for learning where numerous people are coming to learn from us, it also serves as income generation and nutritional enhancement. The initial harvests of vegetables, bursting with colour and flavour, have been eagerly sold locally, bringing fresh produce to the community. Meanwhile, the tree seedlings are healthy and promising a bountiful growth as they mature in the seasons to come.”
— Mr. Deogratius Sanga, Chairperson for Ash-Tech Group, Ludewa Ward
Impact
The project has not only provided economic opportunities but also positioned the gardens as community learning hubs. The initial vegetable harvests have been successfully sold locally, improving access to fresh produce, while the tree seedlings promise sustained environmental and economic benefits in the future.
