The Forest and Farm Facility Project (FFF), in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) through PADECO, has taken remarkable steps to empower local entrepreneurs by providing technical assistance and equipment support to enhance and diversify green enterprises among two local entrepreneurial groups. These groups consist of 37 beekeepers: Luana AMCOS in Luana ward and the Ash-Tech Group in Ludewa ward, both based in Ludewa district. Ultimately, have turned their vision into reality by establishing thriving Food and Forestry Gardens. Within this lush space, they planted array of vegetables, fruits, medicinal herbs and native tree seedlings.
The initiative to empower local entrepreneurial groups through sustainable practices in Ludewa District was designed to fostering environmental conservation and contributing to the fight against climate change while promoting resilient household economic development. The project shines a light on key areas such as enhancing energy efficiency, boosting food security and tree seedlings production through agroforestry and advancing honey production with modern beekeeping practices.
“Our integrated forest garden has become focal point for learning where by numerous people are coming to learn from us, it also serve as income generation and nutritional enhancement. The initial harvests of vegetables, bursting with colour and flavour, have been eagerly sold locally, bringing fresh produce to the community. Meanwhile, the tree seedlings are healthy and promising a bountiful growth as they mature in the seasons to come”. Mr. Deogratius Sanga, the Chairperson for Ash-Tech group from Ludewa ward in Ludewa district.
